Synopsis
As a juror in a high-profile murder case, a family man faces a serious moral dilemma that he could use to influence the jury’s verdict and potentially convict or acquit the wrong killer. Kiefer Sutherland got his role by writing to Clint Eastwood how much of a fan he was and that he would like to star in one of his films before he retires. In the courtroom drama Juror #2, Nicholas Hoult sits on the jury (along with JK Simmons, Leslie Bibb, and others) in a trial where Toni Collette is prosecuting a death case in which it turns out that Holt may be more involved than he even realized at the beginning. Directed by Clint Eastwood (albeit sparingly) and backed by the likes of Kiefer Sutherland and Zoe Deutch, the film smacks of a typically polished genre entry, with debutant Jonathan Abrams trying to put an original spin on it – which he fails to do due to a screenplay too full of holes and unresolved ambiguities (many HATE the ending — despite the fact that it sums up the entire meaning of the film). The film is bold, but it falls far short of the best examples of the genre.
